How to work in deals?

Main Post:

Is this like FDD or M&A?

I feel like those two sound pretty interesting to go into after audit but also hear the word "deals" used. What is it and what jobs are associated with deals?

Thanks in advance.

Top Comment: It's financial due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. Each firm has a different name for the group - deals advisory, financial due diligence, transaction diligence, transaction advisory services - they're all the same thing. Usually they hire a small number of people out of undergrad but it's way more competitive than audit. It's more common to do 2-4 years in audit and then transfer.

Men over 40 how do you deal with career failure?

Main Post:

I've just turned 40 a few weeks ago, all of my life I have been a risk-taker —or just plain stupid— thinking that perhaps I could be great someday.

I've worked in 3 countries for more than 15 years just to pursue my dream, yet with the bout of depressions, struggles, frustrations, suicidal thoughts, sleepless nights, etc. the result has been another mediocrity to another the only thing that change is my greying hair and my depleting confidence.

My boss is 10 years younger than me, most of my friends who were partying when I was slaving in my 20s, thinking that I could become huge someday, has surpassed me already, some of them even had owned a company or become a bigshot at their work.

Right now I just feel drained, thankfully I still have an income and a happy family. I wanted to quit and rest, but as the sole breadwinner and without another good option out there the only thing I could do is to endure the pain, it feels like a knife being inserted slowly into my chest.

Edit

Ow, wow, so this how it feels like to go viral! thank you, everyone!

Just closed the largest deal in my career, and I owe a lot of it to this community

Main Post:

Just wanted to share the success and thank everyone contributing to this subreddit for all the great advice, guides and learning sources recommendations.

Moved into SaaS sales from a research background due to the knowledge I acquired from this community, applied it day-in day-out and now, 2 years later, I 10x'ed my income, closed the largest deal in my career so far and I can wholeheartedly say that I owe a lot of it to you guys.

Wishing you all an amazing quarter!

What is the deal with Gregor Gillespie’s career?

Main Post:

This dude is probably one of the most decorated wrestlers to come into the UFC. Great performances, great record. Khabib equivalent pressure. Honestly in Khabibs prime I would have thought he was one of the only guys who could have gave Khabib serious trouble. Why has he never stood out? Is it just his personality and because he doesn’t give a shit about being a star or is there another reason UFC never really promoted him?

Top Comment: He just doesn't fight too often. Guys like him and Ryan Hall are always asking for high ranked fighters and refusing those below them, without much activity to back their own standing. It just results in them becoming irrelevant due to a combination of staying inactive, developing ring rust and not evolving by the time they fight, and the UFC fading them into obscurity due to match-up refusal.

Shipbroking career advice?

Main Post:

Hi all,

Looking for some guidance if possible. Previously worked at a shipowner in a finance role however have now got a junior tanker broker role lined up at a broking house. I appreciate its eat what you kill etc. but if anyone could give me any info regarding salary breakdown approx for junior brokers > senior brokers etc in UK would be great as not much info on glassdoor. Also, how much commission is typically as part of salary.

Would also want to query how much people think tech will make the broker role obsolete going forward? Have spoken to a few senior brokers and chartering professionals who all have differing views so thought next best place is reddit.

Many thanks for the help!

How do you offer player plus cash deals in transfers?

Main Post:

Have they removed the ability to offer both a player and cash to sign a new player in career mode? Can’t figure out how to do this!

Top Comment:

If you offer a player and they want him then they may ask for cash as well. Only way to do it as far as I know.
